After a long hiatus, the Reverend MiamiShyner has returned to her flock to once again spread the message of ROCO Fridays. <cue music>
Let us reacquaint ourselves, shall we?
Please turn in your hymnals to page 305 for responsive reading.
Rev: And as your boss sayeth unto you, "Can you stay late today?" Let us respond with a phrase fitting the Sweathogs...
Congregation: Up your nose with a rubber hose!
Rev: ROCO! And whosoever wishes to leave early today shall make it known to all.
Congregation: *hands raised energetically* Oooh! Oooh! Oooh!
Rev: And should that one annoying co-worker request that you do his/her work before you leave, the congregation shall say..
Congregation: Off my case, toilet face.
Rev: Let the congregation say...
All: ROCO!
Today, on a day when our President has won the Nobel Peace Prize, when we have crashed a missile into the moon, when it's freezing in Corporate America, we still must give thanks for all we've been blessed to have. Your Reverend is learning to take one day at a time and to enjoy each and every one of those days. Rev MS is spending her last several months in Miami doing some things for herself and she suggests that you do the same be it in Miami or Moscow, Pittsburgh or Portland.
And now, because I know that we all have things to do, I will wrap up today's sermon. Take this good word and go forth and ROCO! <cue exit hymn>
*congregation rises*
*Reverend walks to the back of the church*
Let the congregation say ROCO!
*Rev MS stands at the back of the church shaking hands and kissing the babies of the congregation.*
Chicken and biscuits with gravy and mashed are downstairs. Don't forget to try Sister Kiddo's sweet potato pie!
Welcome back to the reality known as Monday. Bad for some, worse for others, but for me, I just take them as they come.
So, let's just get the bad news out of the way first. Last MUM, I set three goals for myself. Let's see how I did.
- Finish homework by Friday - She shoots, she SCORES! I actually had it all done. I plan to do the same this week.
- Stretch for an hour daily - That slapshot missed WAY wide. Not only did I not stretch for an hour daily, I didn't stretch at all. Bad Shyner. That just means I'll be in super pain tomorrow after class tonight.
- Read 20 pages of PHP tutorial - I just got shutout. Yeah, I didn't do any of the reading. I am such a mess, but I will do better this week.
So, if I didn't do any of that, then what DID I do last week? Let's see. Weekdays are spent at work and then basically collapsing after work from the mental trauma (NOT!). Really, I'm just lazy and when I get home I don't want to do much. Saturday I spent basically the entire day fixing up the living room. Let's just say that before, it was pretty yuck, and seeing as how it's the first thing you see when you walk in our front door, I got tired of wanting to jump off a bridge if I saw it one more time like that. It was cluttered and full of junk and dark and, well, yuck. I wanted to get some slipcovers for the couches but after a wild goose chase at Macys, then Target, then Bed, Bath and Beyond, I gave up on them. I did, however, end up with a decent bookshelf (that Kiddo helped me put together) and a couple of nice plants.
I should have taken a before picture so you could see what was really done, but I didn't. If my brother stops by, he'll let you know how much it's changed.
Yeah, that wall is pink. I still have to paint, but let me tell you, it's a million times better than it was. My Stephen King collection finally has a home, as do all of my computer books. Which is awesome in and of itself because it cleared off space on the bookshelf in my office/the gym for some of my other books. Both Lovey's aunt and our former roommate were awestruck by the transformation and I am quite happy with it. That was an all day job.
Saturday night was date night and I even managed to stay awake after all day cleaning. Lovey and I stepped out for a frozen cocktail since it was just under 8000 degrees. We walked around but there were way too many people out for me so we called it a little early and went home to sit on the balcony. Good times.
Sunday we met Lovey's mom, step-dad, sister and aunt for lunch in a fantabulous Mexican restaurant. Super good stuff. We returned to la casa de doce trienta with full bellies where I cleaned some more and then played some online poker.
The weekend would not have been complete, however, without some sports. That's right. Penguins 2, Flyers 0. Pens in 5 is the way I'm calling it. Let's go PENS!
Before I ramble on too much further, let me set this week's goals.
- Finish the friggin homework before Friday
- Read 20 pages of the PHP tutorial
- Clean the office/gym
- Create a schedule
With that, I'm out! REGULATORS, Mount Up!
Well then, happy Monday Voxers.
I feel as though I may have stepped into some time portal as it's already 2pm and I feel as though I've just recently arrived to work. Now, this would be normal on a day where I was swamped with work, but today is not that day. Time just keeps disappearing. The time between meals evaporates like it wasn't there at all. And on a non-related note, bouts of lightheadedness while sitting are just plain weird.
Weekends are just delicious, aren't they? Yesterday, Lovey, Kiddo and I went over to the home of the new bride and groom for slideshows and videos (and burgers and beers and snacks, oh my tummy). Great times had by all and we're going to work on having the get-together monthly. Hooray!
Talks of the Park City vacation were in full swing, even though it's still 9 months away. We all feel like it's been forever since we were there but it's only been 3 months. We have more folks joining us this year which will make it either way more fun or a super pain in the ass, lol.
I found it rather amusing when, joking with another guest, she called me a bad mommy. Kiddo got pretty pissed and said that I'm not a bad mommy, I'm a great mommy. The other guest noted that she was just joking but Kiddo wasn't having any of that. I guess I'm not doing such a bad job after all.
The 8th grade dance is on Friday. I will post pictures later of Kiddo in her self-designed, MommaShyner-made dress. Let me warn you now that the color scheme is rather outrageous. The design itself is cute though. Yet Kiddo has no desire to do anything in fashion. Go figure.
The fitness bug is about to hit me again. I know it's all about how my clothes fit and feeling healthy, but 136 pounds on a 5'1" frame just doesn't sound right. I've got a lot of muscle mass that I can't get rid of. (If anyone knows a safe way to lose muscle mass, please let me know.) So, it's Zumba mornings and once a week of LEM the Workout over at Body and Soul. I got the most rockin deal ever on a Mother's Day promotion to get back to pole classes. Regular price for the once a week, 90 minute class for 6 weeks and for free I got the punch card that allows me to go to as many classes as my body can take for 6 weeks. AWESOME! Now, if I could just find time for the trapeze and aerial classes, I'd be set. Yeah, well, if I could find the money too.
Anywho, I've rambled enough. Have a wonderful day everyone!
What? It's my mom's birthday. She's coming down tomorrow so I can drop her off at the airport. She's going to the DR for a week, so ROCO for her!
And now, for our feature presentation.....
Please, for the enjoyment of everyone around you: No smoking, No talking, There's candy in the lobby, and Set your phasers to STUN. And, oh yeah, ROCO!
If your day has been rough so far and people are making you angry, may I suggest you follow a tip that I heard this morning on Shade 45 (Eminem's channel on Sirius). Warning: Vulgarity follows.
Whip your dick out and put it in her ear and tell her "Fuck what you heard!"
We are NOT taking it to church this week, but let that not stop the congregation from saying ROCO!
The weekend is upon us folks. I hope that you have some delicious plans. The 1230 Crew is jam-packed for the weekend. Tonight we have our usual take-out dinner super special turkey burger dinner (which means I get extra french fries!) and Solo Boxeo Tecate. (Today is the 1000 day anniversary of Lovey and I. WOOT!) Tomorrow, the vampires get me in the morning before MommaShyner gets to the house. Then I'll take her to the airport and we have errands to run which hopefully will include some of this gooey goodness. Sunday, we're off to the new bride and groom's place (from the Hondruas wedding) for a BBQ and some slide shows of their honeymoon. Life is grand, people, and don't you forget it!
Had a chat this week about my upcoming promotion (that's been upcoming for like a year). Meh, it'll happen when it happens and I can't get my hopes up about it. I have to focus on finishing school and there's still WAY too much of that to focus on to do much of anything else. But when I'm done, ROCO!
I'm sorry that this is so stream-of-consciousness today. With that said, I am totally in love with the show Smallville. I only started watching it maybe a season or two ago and let me tell you that I never miss it now. All I can say is don't get too close to Lex or you might end up dead.
Ack! I really have a ton of stuff to get done, and while I love you Voxiverse, you are not helping. Let me leave the ROCO congregation with this last thought:
Act as if you were already happy and that will tend to make you happy. -Dale Carnegie
ROCO ya'll!
Wow, that just took me back. We used to play four square on the playground when I was in 5th grade. Four square and Release. Release is a version of tag. Good times.
The end of our week of quiet is near. Tomorrow we pick up Kiddo from the airport. The weekend is stuffed to the max with things to do. Paper writing, airport trips, baseball games, shopping, returning, helping, Keys(!), banking, feeding, whew! It's one busy weekend. ROCO!
So I missed last week's edition of ROCO Friday, but rest assured that I was partaking in a ROCO...or someone was...ahahahahaha!
This week has flown by! We've got the summer vacation dates all set up, the house is booked and there's nothing to do but wait for it. I love me some summer vacation. Early morning coffee on the porch, birds chirping, squirrels everywhere, naked boating. The good life for one week. 99 days and counting. (99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer...)
It's 10am and I'm wired for sound. ROCO!
I've really got to get to doing some schoolwork and things of that nature, so I'll leave you all with best wishes for a fun and relaxing weekend and my man, G$. ROCO!
A very green top 'o the mornin to ya Voxiverse! Kisses to all the Irish lads and lassies out there!
Unfortunately, I didn't have the luck of the Irish this weekend. Going into the weekend, I was positive that one, two, or all three of the following things would happen: win poker tourney, win the lottery, win a house in the Keys. Yeah, none of those things happened. Sure, I can't control the last two, nor could I totally control the first but hey, there's always next week. :-)
Kiddo, Lovey and I braved the spring break crowds and went to the beach this weekend. It's really only the traffic that's bad and we missed that on the way in because we go early and leave early. On top of that, we hang at the end of the beach where not many tourists bother to go. Good times. Well, good times minus the sunburn. I was bad to my skin and didn't have any sunscreen on (except on my face) and thus, got burnt. It isn't too bad though, just a smidge on the shoulders and chest.
I don't usually go in the water. It's cold to me. It is March though so it's gonna be chilly. But it was near 90 yesterday and I needed to cool off and the 2 bottles of water, a Capri Sun, and several beers weren't doing it. In I went. I also took my non-waterproof camera to try out the panoramic picture taking. I think it came out pretty well. What do you think?
All in all, good weekend. Oh yeah, and we have a break between classes this week so it's nice to be able to relax before we head into the next session. International Business here we come! More importantly, Honduras here we come! 9 days and counting.
Over the weekend, I accomplished absolutely nothing and I loved every second of it!
Well, I guess that's not totally true. I finished yet another silly paper for my class. (One more week to go of this one! Hooray!) I qualified for a satellite tournament to Sunday's $750K Brawl. Wish me poker luck.
Kiddo, Lovey and I went to Friday's on Friday night. Yeah, I know, chain restaurant, no originality, blahbitty, blahbitty, blah. It's close, it's relatively inexpensive ($70 for two drinks, an app, three entrees, and two deserts), and the food is always okay if not downright good. I had gone with the idea of trying one of the new things on the menu that they got from the Food Network Ultimate Food Something or another. I saw it come out and changed my mind. Sure, someone may have asked for it well done, but an ahi tuna burger shouldn't look like what I saw.
On an up note, they also have these new shaker drinks. WINNER! I had one called a Patron Cosmo Rita. I'm not a heavy tequila drinker but when I have it, I know what I like. (Thanks four years of working in a TexMex restaurant and 2 years of living in Mexico!) I'm still spoiled with bartenders' tastes, so it can't be cheap and it can't be gold. So regular Cuervo is a NO-NO from way back. This bit of loveliness is just as smooth as silk. You could honestly get hurt drinking these because it doesn't taste like booze...a lot. I didn't think it did. Lovey thought it did. We just have different palates. Anywho, I may buck up for a bottle of Patron and make this at home it was that yummy.
OMG! I've been trying to post this since 9am. Damn work interruptions.
I'll leave you with this photo taken by sticking my hand out the sunroof this morning whilst driving 65 in a 50. I call it Cruise Ship Blur. OMG Screw you VOX! You won't upload my picture!!! See it here on Flickr.
And so, since no one rocks out on Monday, but hopefully you get your cock out if you've got one, here's the slightly delayed version.
Last week was wonderfully calm and quiet. Basically, it consisted of getting my classes all straightened out so that I can graduate with my AA in December rather than February. Baby steps people. I refuse to be a slave to Corporate America for any longer than is absolutely necessary.
We came to the realization that it's gonna be four more years in Miami, unfortunately (barring lottery wins or other huge piles of money falling on us). Kiddo has an interview for her magnet school coming up and if she gets in, there's no way I would pull her out before she graduates. She's been talking about this school since she heard about it and practicing her sketching and such, so I hope that the interview goes well.
A little extra cash in the paycheck this week is an awesome thing. Too bad it didn't cover the things that broke such as my telephone, the monitor on my laptop, and my eyes. But, extra cash is extra cash and for that I am thankful. And yes, I wasted it on a fill for my fake-ass nails (can't have raggedy hands sporting the rock) and a spa pedicure (because if you get your hands done, might as well get the tootsies done too). Fortunately, a little other will come in soon on top of the income tax check so I'll be able to pay off ALL the credit cards, hooray! And I'm taking Lovey to dinner over the weekend for Valentine's Day. He picks the place and drives, I pay. I wish I could just get him flowers and candy. :-P
Saturday we attended a little shindig for the birthday of Lovey's best friend's wife. We were in charge of getting everyone into their place while they went out to dinner so we could surprise her. Good times. I know now why I try to avoid the camera. It's because in just about every picture I take, I look hammered whether I am or not. (and if I am, I look like I got keelhauled, face first) Take for instance, Exhibit A. By this time, I had had maybe two drinks.
I'm not sure why this happens. Even when I'm not drinking this happens, evidenced by the group photo at Christmas. And my glasses make me look old. I'm okay with that one though. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?!?! Ugh, the more I look at that picture the more I dislike it.
Anywho, we had to jet out of the party a little early because I was STARVING! We got home at close to 2, I believe, at which time I inhaled a half of a cheesesteak. It was delicious. The next morning I woke up and I smelled like cheesesteak. Kinda gross.
Today is a day of new journeys. It's our first day of school and the first class sucks, lol. Some sort of business garbage that neither I or he have any interest in, but it's only 5 weeks so we suck it up. It's also day one of a personal journey. It's personal.
Sending out good vibes for a great remainder of your Monday. Peace, love and hairgrease!
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and I were having a party and Monday crashed it. Boo for Monday. It wouldn't be so bad if 5:15 didn't come quite so early. On top of it, there was a mighty storm raging this morning and that just makes me want to stay in bed.
Part of me loves the weekend, sleeping in, a relaxing family breakfast (that really isn't relaxing when you keep shushing people and dogs out of the kitchen to get everything on plates at the right time), online poker, Heineken Light, and of course, FOOTBALL! But there's this other part of me that knows that while I'm doing all those things, there are other things that I should be doing like reading the no less than 5 books I have open and started, working on the business or trying to get at least an outline done for the book, which will probably be a dirty e-book. Am I that unmotivated? Apparently, yes, I am.
Saturday was a good day as we traveled to the Keys to pick up our pooch who has been on vacation at Lovey's mom's house since last week. Lovey's mom has two Jack Russell's that wore our poor dog Brandy out. She was so happy to see us and to know in her doggie head that she was mere hours from laying on the cold tile floor under the A/C doing absolutely nothing. Lovey's mom made a spectacular lasagne that we munched on all weekend.
Sunday brought an unexpected surprise: the Steelers on TV! I refuse to give in and get NFL ticket mainly because it's an arm and a leg even in four installments. I've looked at the schedule a million times already to see which games I'll get to see on broadcast TV (5 night games for sure) and which we might need to check out at a local bar (2, maybe 3 since one's on my birthday [my present=Steelers over lying, cheating Patriots]). So I was absolutely stoked to see the boys on TV this week as it wasn't a night game or one that had bar plans. Even better that they beat the Niners 37-16. On the down side, I'm getting my ass handed to me in fantasy football this week unless Drew Brees has some miraculous recovery from the sucking he's beein doing in the first two weeks. Go Saints!
So, now's the time to get on the ball. So much to do. So much potential. I just have to go for it and stop being afraid of rejection. And I'm asking for your help. Please feel free to drop me a note every once in a while (not every day, wise guy) to make sure I'm doing what I should be doing. Don't be mean, I might cry. Probably not, but don't be mean anyways. Thanks and I'm out.
HEP!
I'm so glad you could attend. Come inside, come inside. *
I've been so very un-Voxy for the last week. Part of it is that I've been "busy" but most of it is that I've been lazy. Last Friday, Kiddo, Lovey and I headed north to the beautiful city of Port Saint Lucie where we spent 3 alcohol filled days and 2 drunken nights partying like rock stars. (No alcohol for Kiddo, or at least no more than a sip out of my glass.)
Upon our arrival, Friday afternoon, we proceeded to check out our room (King size bed! Thanks Shawne!) that was adjoining with Kiddo's. We opened up our curtains to find that our balcony overlooked the "fitness pool" (only named that because it's by the gym) and that happened to be where everyone was hanging out for the weekend. The beauty of it is no matter how loud it got at the pool, the doors were so superiorly soundproof that we couldn't hear anything. As a matter of fact, I certainly didn't hear my friends yelling for me to come down to the pool and "stop fucking" as it was so eloquently put when Lovey and I were spending a little QT.
We spent a lot of time hanging out in the pool, having beers and catching up. It was certainly good to see so many of my friends that I haven't seen in a few years. All my brothers and sisters from other mothers were there. It really was a family reunion.
Kiddo was completely stoked to hit the flying trapeze. She spent a lot of time over at the circus and they were kind enough to let her participate in the flying trapeze show. (Video to be posted later.) She begged me to come over to do the show as well, but I happen to remember what they force you to wear for that show and I was in no mood for a one piece purple leotard. After the trapeze show, Lovey joined us in the theatre for the second show. Kiddo wanted to sit right in the front which is never a good idea at a Club Med show, but I let her pick the seats anyways.
Of course, there are always audience participation numbers and with one of my best friends Anthony running the number, Lovey probably could have guessed that he'd be getting pulled on stage. I don't know who was under more pressure, me or him. My friends were razzing me about his dancing skills before he even got up there, being the dirty girls that they are. I told them that it didn't matter what happened up on the stage, there was a reason I disappeared on various occassions. ;-)
Lovey did a spectacular job and was a super good sport about the whole thing. I have to order the pictures from that one, but those won't get posted out of respect for Lovey's shy side. I'm so proud of him for actually getting up on stage and then proceeding to do a great job. It was all in good fun and I think he kinda expected something of that nature to happen anyways.
Another entire day of debauchery flew by and before we knew it, it was time to once again bid farewell to all of my Club Med buddies. The good news is that plans are already in the works for the next reunion.
We spent most of the day Sunday just unwinding from the rest of the weekend, watching football, and listening to more football on Sirius. I always at least get to hear my boys play even if I don't always see them.
Monday brought an appointment that I'm not quite ready to talk about yet. If I haven't already jinxed it by sharing it with two people, I'm hoping it still comes through. By Monday evening I'll know if the jinx held or was broken and then I'll fill you in on the whole story.
To tell the truth, I don't know what happened to the rest of this week. I woke up today and it was Friday. It's also payday, yippee, and to top it all off, today is Lunch Bunch where the company gives you $20 and teams you up with 4 or 5 people from other departments and you all grab lunch together. It's a neat idea. Let's you meet folks you might not have otherwise met. The company isn't that huge or anything, it's just that people tend to stick to their departments.
I guess that's it for the recap. I'm still working towards getting my business off the ground and I've been wanting to write a book for a while now and this morning, the perfect title and format hit me so maybe I can get an outline down on paper sometime soon. Thanks for visiting my ramble. Have a wonderful Friday and a kick-ass weekend!
* Please forgive if I rearranged the words of the song to make them fit what I wanted to say.
