Thursday: I couldn't bring myself to stay at work all day. Excitement had finally caught up to me and I was ready to get going! Even leaving work at around 1:30, we still couldn't manage to get over to the hotel before about 5:30. We had an early dinner at Chili's before leaving and then went to raid the candy section of the Hudson News in the terminal we were in. Happily watched Smallville and called it a night.
Friday: Ah yes, I hate flying. So that's why I was chugging a beer at around 6 am. Flights were quite uneventful which is always a great thing. We arrived at the house at a little after 2pm.
There was no unpacking to be done as we wanted to get over to the mountain right away to take advantage of the free lift ticket that you could get in exchange for a copy of your boarding pass and showing your ID. What a great offer!
We took a few runs and then stopped by both the liquor store (for Devastator) and the grocery store (for the box of cereal that I housed that week). By this time, everyone had made it to the house; we were a party of 10. Btw, the house was super sweet. That photo shows the front and you walk into a mudroom with a master bedroom off to the left and to the right. A staircase takes you to the second floor which has the kitchen, dining room, living room, doors to that little balcony you can see, laundry room, a bathroom, and the steps to the thrid floor. Up on three were two more bedrooms and a small loft area with a Ninetendo 64. Oh, out the back door on the second floor there was a jacuzzi and a sauna (neither of which I used..I'm weird like that). We called it a little early.
Saturday: I woke up to pee thinking it had to be nearly 7:30, but no, it was only about 2:30. UGH!
Saturday: For real this time, we went to breakfast over at The Clockwork Cafe. I really love egg sandwiches. We took the beautiful ride up the Town Lift and spent the morning hitting the slopes. Odd, I really forget to eat when I'm up there. I chug water like it's going out of style, but I have to be reminded to eat. I'm a nut.
Due to some folks within the party taking some spills, we decided that it would be best if we all took a lesson on Monday and we went back to the house after lunch.
I went for the annual best-massage-of-my-life massage. Let me just tell you that you might think you're in heaven if you spend a little time over at Aura. I had the Third Eye Package. Fell asleep once during the wrap and THREE TIMES during the massage. Seriously, to the point that I was snoring. Fantastic!
Sunday: THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS ARE THE SUPERBOWL XLIII CHAMPS!!!!
Monday: Mmmm, more egg sandwiches! The lesson was great. I got some pointers and I'm feeling more confident on my board. Superb pad thai for dinner. This is the week I eat more food than I really should. :-)
Tuesday: [this day kicked ass] Know why? Do ya? Do Ya? Huh? Huh? Huh?!?!? Okay, because I'm so slow to post about vacation, you may already know. :-P
I had the pleasure to be a part of a Mountain Meetup and the Utah Sisterhood of the Steelers was formed. Should I make a t-shirt that says "I met Kevin Wolf and all I got was this crappy t-shirt?" Nah, he might like that too much. :-P Much more imiportant on a chick level is that Jillzey kicks ass! I triple dog dare you to say anything different! You guys rock and made my vacation a happy place. As if you haven't seen their photos, I'll post mine of the group as well.
That was pretty much the face Kiddo had all the time so no offense to the company.
I think she's trying to be the next generation's surly bastard.
Lovey and I have long been discussing moving out of Miami. Our first choice was to the Salt Lake City area, then we switched to outside of Boulder, but now I do believe that we are back to the SLC area. Because that much coolness over there -----------------------------> cannot be limited to once a year.
Wednesday: Another great day on the mountain. Let me tell you something. I grew up eating venison and it's damn delicious. I haven't had it in quite some time, we're talking 10 years easy and I miss it.
Well, that all got taken care of on Wednesday night. Lovey and I went to dinner at 350 Main.
OMG! It was friggin delicious!
We shared a bottle of Hess chardonnay (yummy) and had the Four Cheese Ravioli (L) and the Tower of Ahi and Hamachi (me). Great Googly Moogly best Ahi ever! Lovey had the Steak Frites and I had the Venison Medallions hold the pepper. Not even joking, I think I wet my pants a little. It was THAT good. Don't let the lack of a listing of desserts fool you. They had them and they were good too. Oh, creme brulee, we are good friends.
Thursday: Last day out on the mountain. It was the first day where we had some overcast yuckiness which means flat spots which means I can't see things until I'm right up on them and then face down in the snow. Um, no thank you. I have some shopping to do before we go.
Thought about buying a sweet Roots Park City sweatshirt but couldn't bring myself to do it. Got some yummy sweets from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
All that was left was dinner and packing.
Friday: All week, the sky was blue and there was hardly a cloud to be seen. Great for me but not so much for the rest of the group that wanted to see snow. So as we are up bright and early to head to the airport, what do we wake up to? Oh, around 3 or 4 inches of fresh powder. Ha! Someone's got bad karma.
All in all, a really good time. And no, I don't know what you're talking about...we aren't already starting to plan for next year!
Hell yeah because we just picked up our tickets for the Park City vacation for.....wait for it.....
$294 Dollars round trip!!!
Dude, super inexpensive! STOKED!
Well then, happy Monday Voxers.
I feel as though I may have stepped into some time portal as it's already 2pm and I feel as though I've just recently arrived to work. Now, this would be normal on a day where I was swamped with work, but today is not that day. Time just keeps disappearing. The time between meals evaporates like it wasn't there at all. And on a non-related note, bouts of lightheadedness while sitting are just plain weird.
Weekends are just delicious, aren't they? Yesterday, Lovey, Kiddo and I went over to the home of the new bride and groom for slideshows and videos (and burgers and beers and snacks, oh my tummy). Great times had by all and we're going to work on having the get-together monthly. Hooray!
Talks of the Park City vacation were in full swing, even though it's still 9 months away. We all feel like it's been forever since we were there but it's only been 3 months. We have more folks joining us this year which will make it either way more fun or a super pain in the ass, lol.
I found it rather amusing when, joking with another guest, she called me a bad mommy. Kiddo got pretty pissed and said that I'm not a bad mommy, I'm a great mommy. The other guest noted that she was just joking but Kiddo wasn't having any of that. I guess I'm not doing such a bad job after all.
The 8th grade dance is on Friday. I will post pictures later of Kiddo in her self-designed, MommaShyner-made dress. Let me warn you now that the color scheme is rather outrageous. The design itself is cute though. Yet Kiddo has no desire to do anything in fashion. Go figure.
The fitness bug is about to hit me again. I know it's all about how my clothes fit and feeling healthy, but 136 pounds on a 5'1" frame just doesn't sound right. I've got a lot of muscle mass that I can't get rid of. (If anyone knows a safe way to lose muscle mass, please let me know.) So, it's Zumba mornings and once a week of LEM the Workout over at Body and Soul. I got the most rockin deal ever on a Mother's Day promotion to get back to pole classes. Regular price for the once a week, 90 minute class for 6 weeks and for free I got the punch card that allows me to go to as many classes as my body can take for 6 weeks. AWESOME! Now, if I could just find time for the trapeze and aerial classes, I'd be set. Yeah, well, if I could find the money too.
Anywho, I've rambled enough. Have a wonderful day everyone!
Today has been a laid-back and kinda sad day. Our friends/condomates left this afternoon for Miami. We'll be leaving at 10am tomorrow. Needless to say (so then why are you saying it?!?!), we don't want to leave. But, we haven't hit the lottery lately so it's back on the plane and back to Miami we go.
We had originally planned on hitting the slopes one last time today, but soreness and laziness got the best of us. Instead, we just hung around the house and tried to eat all the extra food that we have. We're still left with a bowl of chili and some eggs and waffles. We did a pretty good job of rationing our vittles well. I've done more cooking on this vacation than I ever do but I didn't mind since I don't usually have the kitchen duties. The condo that we've been staying in has enough dishes to feed about 20 so we haven't had to waste a lot of water running the dishwasher either which was nice.
In the late afternoon, we did make it to the base of the mountain for one more go-round and to go to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I first found this place in Crested Butte, CO, and damn! I'm not big on chocolate, unless it's chocolate covered pretzels, which they have. Even better than the chooclate, for me anyways, is the caramel apples. I LOVE THEM!!! For a mere $25 we got:
- 3 apples - 2 plain caramel (me) one with caramel, white chocolate and crushed up Oreos (for Kiddo)
- One chocolate covered pretzel stick (me)
- One mini-pretzel stick (Kiddo)
- One pecan turtle (me/Lovey)
- 3 chocolate dipped graham crackers (Kiddo/Lovey)
I may eat both apples tonight and then get more in the airport in Salt Lake City because they're that good and I am a pig.
Packing and making preparations to leave is sad. This trip has been so special for so many different reasons. Believe it or not, we're already starting to make plans for next year's trip. Some people that weren't able to make it this time have seen the pictures and have set themselves to be making the trip next year. It should be a blast.
These will eventually make it to Flickr too, but for now, I'm just going to post them here. I was so sad I could only take a couple pictures.
Tomorrow, we get home so late there won't be any posts about TSA, stinky guys on airplanes, or anything else. Saturday I have to go get my nails done so I can show off my ring. (I have some stupid thing with my nails that they look like all my fingers got smashed in doors. Been that way since I was 3, so I'm used to it, but they have to get pretty to match the jewel.) At some point this weekend, I hope to see the Jacksonville Jaguars take it to those nasty red, white and blue wearing mother-farging corksucking iceholes just like they did to my poor hapless Steelers.
Thanks to all for joining me on my Park City journey. It's been real and we can do it again next year!
Today marked the triumphant return of Kiddo to the slopes! We all did this cool Mountain Tour thing where you get to stay on the easy runs but you still get to see pretty much a majority of the mountain. As per the norm, photos are posted at www.flickr.com/photos/miamishyner.
I made super-duper chili this morning at 8 and we left it in the crock pot all day. For my first time making chili, it was damn delicious! So after I finished up with the chili this morning, we all went out. The wind and snow had picked up again but we hit it hard anyways. Around two-thirty we decided to take a break and get some lunch. We went to the Summit House (picture on Flickr). It's a neat little place that's cafeteria-like but still with real plates and silverware. We finished up and went back outside to strap up.
Lovey was off to the side and called me over. I was being stubborn because I wanted to get back on the mountain, but he was persistent so I went over. He was floundering around like he needed help with something and told me to look in his front jacket pocket. I didn't think twice about it as we had been digging in each others' pockets since we've been here. I was surprised at what was in his pocket this time though.
Small, red box. Yep, that's right! I got engaged! He's such a stinker. He tricked me into thinking that he wasn't gonna do it (and I had actually gotten a bit upset about it), but it's all good. The very first time we had spoken of getting married, I told him that I didn't want a regular ring. I wanted something that would be different than everyone else's. I actually showed him what I would like and that's exactly what he got me. :-) It's late and I gotta go snuggle. That third picture is the ring on my fat hand. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Till tomorrow...
Today was the day to chillax. Therefore there's not much to say about today. We just hung out and caught an afternoon lunch. By the way, if you're ever in the area, you must have a Devastator. Seriously, how could you NOT order a beer called the Devastator? It's really good. Kinda like an Amber Bock but better. Two beers = almost drunk and the arrival of Chatty Cathy.
Also, I tried a self-portrait. I've never really thought of my self as "pretty"; I think I'm "different" and that's cool. So here's my eskimo photo ( it's like you can't even tell that I have lipstick on):
We're having some rocking Mexican food tonight, everyone's got smiles, the Beastie Boys are online and we're having a damn good time. Peace, love and hairgrease, ya'll!
Good news, no concussion for Kiddo, just a nasty case of the flu. A full day of rest for her and some SEVERE Tylenol Cold and hopefully tomorrow she'll be up and at 'em again.
I had a horrendous night for sleeping. I woke up at about 1:30 am with a headache that made me want to rip my head off. At first, I thought that I was dehydrated so I got up and had a glass and a half of water and tried to relax myself enough to get back to sleep. After about 20 minutes, I laid back down and fell asleep. But not for long. 4:30 rolled around and I was awake again. Seriously, I thought my head was gonna come OFF. Seeing as how I didn't want to wake Lovey, I went down to the kitchen to get even MORE water. Somewhere after about another glass and a half, I touched my face and realized that it wasn't a dehydration headache, but a sinus one instead.
Do you know how long it takes for the hot water to get to the faucet when I don't know where the hot water heater is and it's all of 4 degrees outside? Longer than I wanted to wait, that's for sure. When it finally got there, I managed to get a hot washcloth on my face to try to tame my out of control sinuses.
Sidebar: I couldn't find my sinus meds so I took the last of the Tylenol Go-Tabs. If you've had this, you know. If you haven't, please be warned that it is one of THE most disgusting things I've ever tasted in my entire life. Gross, gross, gross!
I managed to get a couple more hours in before we went out to the grocery store and to the Sports Authority. Woot!! I got new snowboard boots! My old ones, circa 2002, were really killing my feet and my mom had just given me a couple bucks so I splurged. And get this, brand new K2s and I got them for $94!! On top of all that, they're so super comfortable. It's like sex on my feet! Added bonus, it gives me way more control on my board and I feel like I might go crazy and ride a blue!
Anywho, I'm beat. There are new pics up at http://www.flickr.com/photos/miamishyner. I'll leave you with this:
Until tomorrow...
Yeah, it was bound to happen. Don't worry, it isn't anything MAJOR major. We (and I mean everyone else in the party) had the typical bumps and bruises like sore bums and sore wrists from fall-breaking, although they'd been warned not to do that. Lovey has a minor knee twist but the overall worst is Kiddo. During her snowboard lesson yesterday, she took a spill and hit her head. Fortunately, she was wearing a helmet.
This morning she woke up and was complaining of a rather nasty headache. I couldn't decide if I should chalk it up to altitude sickness as she's really dehydrated and refuses to drink water, or if it was because she hit her head. So I gave her two aspirin, and my bad, she hadn't yet eaten breakfast, so right back that all came. I got her somewhat rehydrated but she was in no condition to do much of anything. She just wanted to sleep, and bad mother that I am, I let her.
I went to the grocery store and got her some Pedialyte for rehydration and some Crystal Light iced tea so she would actually drink the water. She managed to keep one piece of toast down but just wanted to sleep more. She wanted to sleep more but I told her that she had to stay up for a while. During that while, I called the local clinic and described the situation. They said that it sounded like she has a mild concussion but to just keep her hydrated in case it was the start of something else, like a stomach bug or something. They said it was okay for her to go back to sleep but to check on her in a few hours. If her head still hurts tomorrow, it's off to the clinic in person for a little checkup.
I know that it's not too bad because she hit her head in the same place that I hit mine and in the same manner a few years back except I wasn't wearing a helmet. She's exhibiting the same symptoms that I had, although I never lost my cookies. I'm sure that she'll be fine come tomorrow. I'll really have to watch her because she's super excited to be here and wants to get back out on the mountain ASAP, but I'll have to make sure she didn't scramble her eggs first.
We haven't gotten many pictures because it's been snowing SO FREAKING hard!! I did take a couple outside of the condo and tried to stitch some together from the base of the mountain and made them my banner. And then there's a picture of me and Lovey although I am not visible. Man, it's cold up here!
More action tomorrow!
Umm, this is probably TMI but it's painfully true.
Another early morning for us in getting up, eating and getting ready for our lessons. Some super put-off unpacking revealed that the TSA removed an item from one piece of my luggage. Those motherfuckers stole my brand new glass dildo. I didn't even get to use the freaking thing yet! So, of course I penned them a nasty-gram that wasn't nearly as nasty as it could have been but I'm just too tired (awesome snowboard lessons!) to be any meaner.
On the morning of Friday, January 4, 2008, I checked several pieces of luggage at Fort Lauderdale airport. I flew from FLL to DEN to SLC (luggage tag blah blah blah).
Upon arrival at our destination, I unpacked my luggage and was disappointed to find that an item had been removed from my luggage. Please be aware that in this same suitcase was a grooming kit containing sharp objects, along with many other items that I may have understood had they been removed.
Unfortunately, the only reason that I can come up with for the item being removed is the TSA agent who checked my bag has some sort of moral issue. I know that this suitcase was checked as it had an orange TSA checked sticker.
The item in question was a glass dildo. Being completely smooth, not a sharp edge to be seen, and encased in a red velvet bag, it would seem to me that the purpose of said item was obvious, and in my eyes, there was no reason to remove this object. I consider this to be theft. I am very disappointed in the removal of my personal property and would like, at least, an apology, if not reimbursement for the item in question.
Please feel free to contact me at this email address with your response.
Sincerely,
MiamiShyner
Now I hate the airport even more and I'm out $30 and we lost a really fun toy. Damn you Fort Lauderdale TSA!!
Whew! What a trip! Last night we left work early to pick Kiddo up from the airport then checked into the hotel. A quick dinner at TGI Friday's and then off to bed because we had to get up at 4(!) am to get on over to the airport. Fortunately, we were about five minutes ahead of the rush and got checked in easily. Our plane took off without a hitch and up in the air we were for about 4 hours, going from Fort Lauderdale to Denver. On time arrival meant we could check out DIA for a second, grab some food, and get back on the plane to Salt Lake City.
Unfortunately, the two gentlemen in front of us chose today not to shower or use deodorant or anything. Complete yuck. Every once in a while their "aroma" would drift back and slap us all in the face. Fortunately, this flight was less than 90 minutes.
All of the luggage arrived thankfully and with one quick phone call our chariot arrived to bring us to our home for the next week. (Hahahaha, I just realized that it's already after 11 at home.) It's really pretty here. We have our own personal jacuzzi. We scooped up a 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo within walking distance to the slopes.
I didn't want to clog everything up here, so today's photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/miamishyner/
I'll keep you all posted on all the happs. Tomorrow I learn to shred a little better. Peace out ya'll!
